Magic forward Paolo Banchero is facing an indefinite break from the game due to a torn right oblique, according to Shams Charania.
Details on Banchero’s Injury:
Charania shared that Banchero was initially questionable for Fridayโs matchup because of a right abdominal strain. However, he will now be rechecked in four to six weeks, depending on how well he heals. The Magic confirmed this news through an official statement.
Banchero’s Rising Performance:
This injury comes at a tough time for Banchero, who was shining after his Rookie of the Year award in 2022-23 and his first All-Star appearance in ’23-24. Last season, he averaged 22.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game over 80 starts. This season began even better with averages of 29 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 5.6 assists over five games. He even hit a career-high by scoring 50 points against Indiana.
Fans are really hoping for his speedy recovery so we can see him back on the court soon!
Even if Banchero recovers quickly, he might not return until December at the earliest. This delay could make him miss out on major awards due to the NBA’s rule requiring players to participate in at least 65 games.
Impact on the Magic Team:
Without their leading scorer and playmaker, the Magic will need others to step up during this period. Franz Wagner is expected to take on more minutes and responsibilities if he’s healthy enough to play Friday despite being sick himself.
Other team members like Moritz Wagner, Jonathan Isaac, and Jett Howard may also see increased roles while Banchero is out of action.
Let’s hope for some surprises from these players as they fill in!
