Since Matt Ishbia took over as owner of the Suns, it’s been a downhill slide for Phoenix. He hasn’t been afraid to use the team’s resources. However, it has quickly backfired in his face.
The Suns are finishing 2024-25 with a disappointing 35-45 record and will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2020.
That’s a stunning fall for a team that went all-in on championship dreams.
Even worse? Phoenix doesn’t control their own first-round pick until 2032. Yes, you read that right – 2032.
Now the unthinkable question is being asked: Should the Suns trade Devin Booker?
## What will the Phoenix Suns do this offseason?

Matt Ishbia became the controlling owner of the Phoenix Suns on February 7, 2023. Just two days later, he made his first big splash.
The Suns traded for Kevin Durant, giving up fan favorites Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson in the process.
They also shipped out four unprotected first-round picks to Brooklyn.
But Ishbia wasn’t done there.
After the 2022-23 season, Phoenix went even deeper into their bag of assets to land Bradley Beal from the Wizards. The price? Chris Paul, Landry Shamet, first-round pick swaps in 2024, 2026, 2028, and 2030, plus six second-round picks.
Let that sink in. The Suns won’t control their own first-round pick until 2032.
Ishbia tried building a championship team practically overnight. No patience, all urgency.
That plan has completely backfired.
Now the Suns face perhaps the toughest decision in franchise history. With no draft capital and a losing record, should they consider trading Booker – the face of their franchise for the past decade?
Booker is the team’s all-time leading scorer and has spent all 10 of his NBA seasons in Phoenix. Trading him would be a dramatic admission of failure.
But what other options do they have to fix this mess before next season?
