Devin Booker just locked in his future with the Phoenix Suns in a massive way. The star guard has signed a two-year, $145 million extension that will keep him in a Suns uniform through the 2029-30 season.
This isn’t just any contract. It’s the highest annual extension salary in NBA history, according to Booker’s agents.
The deal came together Wednesday night when Suns owner Matt Ishbia met with the 28-year-old star. After negotiations wrapped up, Booker agreed to terms that will pay him an eye-popping $72.5 million per year.
That narrowly edges out Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s recent supermax extension, which pays about $71.25 million annually.
Booker now has five years and $316 million remaining on his contract with Phoenix.
What makes this extension particularly noteworthy is Booker’s unwavering loyalty to the franchise that drafted him. The upcoming season will mark his 10th with the team, and he’s sticking around despite the roster upheaval happening around him.
In fact, Booker recently became the Suns’ all-time leading scorer, cementing his place in franchise history.
His consistency has been remarkable. Booker and Giannis Antetokounmpo are the only players in the league to average 25+ points over the last seven seasons.
But team success has been harder to come by. The Suns have made just four playoff appearances during Booker’s tenure.
Their closest brush with a championship came in 2021, when Phoenix jumped to a 2-0 lead in the NBA Finals against Milwaukee. That dream ended with four straight losses to the Bucks.
Recent seasons have brought more disappointment. The Kevin Durant experiment didn’t work out as planned, leading to Durant’s departure this offseason. Now rumors suggest Bradley Beal might be the next star to leave Phoenix.
Through all the changes, Booker remains the constant. While stars come and go around him, he’s doubling down on his commitment to bring a championship to the desert.
The 2025-26 season will be Booker’s 11th with the Suns, a rarity in today’s NBA where player movement is the norm.
