Police Probe High School Player After Basketball Game Attacks

A violent incident at a Georgia high school basketball game has led to a police investigation after a player threw punches at two opponents during a January 3rd matchup.

The shocking scene unfolded during a game between Sonoraville High School and Rockmart High School in Calhoun, when a Rockmart player suddenly shoved a Sonoraville opponent to the ground.

What happened next stunned the crowd.

When the Sonoraville player got back up, the Rockmart player hit him with a right-handed punch to the face. As another Sonoraville player rushed in to help his teammate, he too was struck by the Rockmart player.

The incident left one player face-down on the court while coaches and school staff rushed to check on him. Parents and spectators stormed onto the court as a Rockmart coach quickly escorted the player who threw the punches away from the scene.

According to police documents obtained by TMZ Sports, there might be more to the story. The 16-year-old Rockmart player told authorities he “lost his temper” after allegedly being called the N-word repeatedly by his opponent. The police report doesn’t confirm whether these allegations are true.

The young player is now facing two charges of simple battery.

Neither school has made any public statements about what happened that night.

On the scoreboard, it was already a tough night for Rockmart. They were down 49-12 at halftime and ended up losing 95-25. It was their 16th straight loss going back to last season, dropping their record to 0-13.

Sonoraville, meanwhile, picked up their eighth straight win, improving to 13-2.

But the final score seems like an afterthought now, as both schools and local authorities deal with the fallout from those violent moments on the court.
