Paul George’s night went from bad to worse in Philadelphia – first a finger injury knocked him out of the Sixers’ game, then he got stuck in wild Eagles celebration traffic trying to get home.
The nine-time All-Star jammed his pinky finger on his non-shooting hand early in the second quarter against the Bulls on Saturday night. He’ll need an MRI to check for any serious damage.
“They’re gonna get an MRI tomorrow. Got to see if there’s any damage or anything,” Sixers head coach Nick Nurse said after the game.
Despite losing George, Philadelphia managed to beat Chicago, marking their first back-to-back wins of 2025. They’d upset the Cavaliers just one day earlier.
The timing couldn’t be worse for the Sixers. They’re already missing Joel Embiid and rookie Jared McCain to long-term injuries, and now George might join them on the sidelines during a tough stretch of games.
Nurse praised his team’s resilience playing on consecutive nights. “I think we had pretty good resilience coming off the back-to-back,” he said. “These guys, the games go a little bit more like this because of their pace and their shooting.”
But George’s rough night wasn’t over after the final buzzer.
The 34-year-old star found himself trapped in downtown Philly traffic as Eagles fans flooded the streets celebrating their team’s Super Bowl-clinching win over the Commanders. Fans spotted him in his car, finger visibly taped up, trying to navigate through the sea of celebrating supporters.
A viral video showed George’s car barely moving as green-clad fans swarmed the streets around him.
The Sixers will try to keep their winning streak alive when they host the red-hot Lakers on Tuesday night – with or without their injured star.
