Spurs players pull hilarious prank on rookie Stephon Castle after big win
The San Antonio Spurs snapped their three-game losing streak Wednesday night with a solid 126-116 victory over the Dallas Mavericks at home.
But the real entertainment came after the final buzzer.
Rookie point guard Stephon Castle got a surprise when teammates led him to his Toyota Supra in the parking lot – only to find all four tires completely removed from his car.
Devin Vassell couldn’t resist sharing the moment on social media, capturing Castle’s shocked reaction as he discovered his wheel-less ride.
“Spurs took Stephon Castle’s wheels off his car ,” read the post that quickly went viral.
Castle, who contributed eight points, two rebounds, an assist and a steal in 27 minutes off the bench, took the prank in stride.
De’Aaron Fox later revealed that Castle “deserved it” since he’d been getting special treatment and skipping other typical rookie duties throughout the season.
It’s been a tough year for the Spurs, who now sit at 27-37 and are headed for another lottery pick in the upcoming draft. The team has struggled especially since Victor Wembanyama’s injury.
But moments like these show the team still has plenty of chemistry despite their on-court challenges.
The prank continues the NBA’s long tradition of rookie hazing. Veterans have been known to fill rookies’ cars with popcorn or make them bring food for the entire team during road trips.
At least Castle won’t need a vacuum cleaner to fix this one.
The 4th overall pick in the 2024 draft remains the betting favorite to win Rookie of the Year despite the Spurs’ disappointing record.
Wednesday’s game marked the final meeting between the Texas rivals this season, with Dallas taking the season series 3-1.
