The Phoenix Suns lacked a true ball-handler last season.
Devin Booker and Bradley Beal tried to manage the offense, but it often felt messy. So, during free agency, the Suns aimed to find a real point guard to boost their attack.
John Hollinger from The Athletic thinks Tyus Jones joining the team is an underrated move. He believes Jones can make a big impact for Mike Budenholzer’s squad.
> โI donโt think the impact of this move is getting enough attention,โ Hollinger wrote. โThe Suns desperately needed both A) a real point guard and B) another starting-caliber level player, at any position. Jones checked both boxes without costing them any draft picks (not that they had any left to trade) or other assets.”
Jones played for the Washington Wizards last season, appearing in 66 games with averages of 12 points, 7.3 assists, and 2.7 rebounds per game. His shooting percentage from three-point range was an impressive 41.4%. According to Cleaning The Glass, Jones assisted on 33.2% of his teammates’ baskets when he was on the floor .
The Impact of Tyus Jones:
With Jones now on their roster, the Suns’ offense should be much stronger next season. Kevin Durant, Booker, and Beal will have more chances to score and spread out defenses by punishing double-teams quickly thanks to Jones’ passing skills.
> “Heโs good enough that he could genuinely matter in a congested West race where two or three wins might be the difference between the third seed and the Play-In Tournament,” continued Hollinger. “… not to mention a playoff series.”
Fans might feel excited about how this addition could change everything for their team.
Jones is known as a professional who excels as one of NBA’s top role-playing guards. If he helps unlock Phoenix’s offense while providing solid defense on the perimeter, he could see a significant pay rise when he becomes a free agent next summer.
What do you think? Can Tyus Jones be the game-changer for the Suns?
