Trail Blazers Toumani Camara Reach 4-Year $82M Extension

Portland Trail Blazers have locked up forward Toumani Camara with a four-year, $82 million contract extension, according to his agent Dave Putterie who shared the news with ESPN’s Shams Charania on Sunday.

The deal replaces Camara’s $2.4 million team option for 2026-27 and keeps the 25-year-old in Portland through the 2029-30 season.

Camara’s rise has been pretty remarkable for a player drafted 52nd overall just two years ago. The Phoenix Suns originally selected him out of Dayton in 2023, but he was quickly shipped to Portland as part of the blockbuster trade that sent Damian Lillard to Milwaukee and brought Deandre Ayton to the Blazers.

The 6-foot-8 wing made an immediate impact during his rookie season, averaging 7.5 points and 4.9 rebounds while starting 49 of his 70 games.

He took a major leap forward last season, starting all 78 games he played while putting up 11.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game. His shooting improved too, hitting 45.8% from the field and a solid 37.5% from three-point range.

Camara has quickly established himself as one of the league’s best defenders. He finished ninth in total steals last season and was one of just seven NBA players to record both 100 steals and 50 blocks.

He can score when needed too. Against Oklahoma City in January, he exploded for a career-high 24 points, hitting all five of his three-point attempts.

His defensive prowess earned him a spot on the NBA All-Defensive Second Team – making him the first Blazer to receive that honor since Theo Ratliff back in 2003-04.

Portland Signs Shaedon Sharpe To Rookie Extension

With Camara’s deal structured to leave enough luxury tax space, the Blazers were also able to sign guard Shaedon Sharpe to a four-year, $90 million rookie extension.

Sharpe, still just 22, was the 7th overall pick in the 2022 draft. He’s shown flashes of star potential, averaging 14.3 points across his three seasons with Portland.

Last year was his best statistical season yet, putting up 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game in 72 appearances. His usage rate hit a career-high 25.1% as he took on more offensive responsibility.

But there are still rough edges to his game. His three-point shooting dipped to a career-low 31.1% despite taking nearly half his shots from beyond the arc. His defense remains a work in progress too.

What’s undeniable is Sharpe’s scoring talent. He’s already racked up seven 30-point games before turning 22 – more than any other player in Trail Blazers history. His career-high came in April when he dropped 36 points in a win at Toronto.

Portland opens its 2025-26 season on Wednesday when they host the Minnesota Timberwolves.
