A heated scuffle between Tyler Herro and Amen Thompson turned an otherwise stellar Miami Heat victory into chaos Sunday night, with six ejections in the final minute of play.
Herro was dominating the game with 27 points, 9 assists, and 6 rebounds when things got ugly with just 47 seconds left.
That’s when Thompson, clearly frustrated after struggling to guard Herro all night, grabbed the Heat guard and threw him to the floor during an inbound play.
The body slam sparked an immediate brawl between both teams.
When the dust settled, six people got tossed from the game – including Rockets head coach Ime Udoka, Jalen Green, and assistant coach Ben Sullivan, plus the Heat’s Terry Rozier and both players involved in the initial clash.
But Herro got the last laugh. Not only did Miami secure the road win, but he couldn’t help taking a shot at Thompson after the game.
“You go home bro. You lost,” Herro was caught saying as he left the court.
In the postgame interview, Herro stayed cool about the whole thing. “It was just two competitors going at it, playing basketball…. just a physical game,” he said. Then he couldn’t resist adding: “I guess that’s what happens when someone is scoring, throwing dimes, doing the whole thing. I’d get mad, too.”
The 23-year-old guard has been on fire this season, putting up career-best numbers with 23.9 points per game. He’s stepped up big time while Jimmy Butler’s been out, making a strong case for his first All-Star selection.
With rumors swirling about Butler’s future in Miami, Herro’s emergence as the team’s go-to scorer couldn’t have come at a better time.
The Heat will need that same fire – minus the ejection – as they continue their push toward the playoffs.
