Veteran NBA Sharpshooter Retires

Joe Harris has decided to retire, according to Shams Charania.

Drafted 33rd overall in 2014, Harris started his career in Cleveland. After a foot injury in the 2015-16 season, he was traded to Orlando and then released by the Magic. In July 2016, he joined Brooklyn as a free agent.

Harris found his stride with the Nets. From 2018-21, he averaged 14.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game while shooting .497/.458/.782 over three seasons . He led the league in three-point percentage twice during this period.

Career Challenges:

Injuries plagued Harris starting from the ’21-22 season when he suffered a significant ankle injury. This setback affected his performance and made his contract with Brooklyn burdensome for the team. The Nets eventually traded him to Detroit last summer in a salary-dump move.

Fans might feel sad about this news because they remember how great he was before injuries took their toll.

With Detroit, Harris only played in 16 games during the ’23-24 season and struggled on the court. By February, the Pistons released him, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Over his ten-year NBA career, Harris averaged 10.3 points, 3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game across 504 regular-season games (283 starts). His impressive .436% from beyond the arc ranks fifth in NBA history. Notably, he also won the three-point contest back in 2019.
