As the NBA gears up for Victor Wembanyama’s second season, three players should be on high alert for his dunks.
Wembanyama’s Dunk Targets:
In a chat with CBS Sports’ Ashley Nicole Moss, the towering 7-footer shared who he dreams of dunking on in the upcoming 2024-25 season. He said, "The best defenders would be the biggest challenge, so that would be Rudy Gobert, I think Kawhi [Leonard] would be, because all these guys I respect so much on the defensive end that it would be incredible to dunk on them," adding Jonathan Isaac as his third pick. Wemby admires Isaac’s defense and thinks he’s underrated.
Defensive Prowess:
Isaac is indeed a strong defender. Last year, he almost made it to an All-Defensive team but missed out due to not playing enough games. In his 58 appearances, his team had one of the top defenses in the league. They ranked third in defensive rating at 110.8, just behind the Timberwolves and Celtics. Leonard and Gobert have both earned Defensive Player of the Year honors multiple times, making them tough but exciting targets for Wembanyama.

During his rookie year, Wembanyama delivered some impressive dunks, especially a memorable one-handed slam against Alperen Sengun from the Rockets in March.
Role Evolution:
At first, coach Gregg Popovich used Wembanyama more as a stretch player while Zach Collins played center. This strategy aimed to shield him from NBA’s physical demands initially. But as time went on and he moved to center position himself, he became more aggressive.
Now entering this new season weighing 235 poundsโ25 pounds heavier than last yearโWembanyama might pose even more of a threat to opponents!
