Warriors Interested In Sign-And-Trade For Josh Giddey

NBA insider Jake Fischer revealed on a Bleacher Report live stream that the Golden State Warriors are interested in a potential double sign-and-trade involving Josh Giddey and Jonathan Kuminga.

“I can report that there have been multiple teams that have reached out to Josh Giddey’s representation about having interest in [him],” Fischer said.

“Golden State is one of them. Golden State would be interested, depending on how the machinations would go, in some kind of Josh Giddey-Jonathan Kuminga sign-and-trade, to my understanding.”

There’s just one problem – the Bulls don’t seem eager to play ball.

Fischer noted that “The Bulls have been telling teams that they don’t want to talk sign-and-trade.” This creates a significant roadblock since both sides need to agree for any deal to happen.

That said, Chicago has shown interest in Kuminga before.

“They made outreach to Golden State early in the offseason about Kuminga, they’ve talked about Kuminga in various trade conversations with the Warriors in the past when Golden State was checking in on Zach LaVine and Alex Caruso and other things,” Fischer explained.

The Warriors aren’t in any rush to move Kuminga. They’ve already extended a one-year, $7.9 million qualifying offer to him, meaning they can keep him unless he forces their hand by refusing to sign.

Other teams have already tried and failed to land Kuminga. According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Warriors have “zero interest” in offers from the Phoenix Suns and Sacramento Kings.

Time is running out for Kuminga, though. His qualifying offer deadline is October 1st.

“There still is some hope from Kuminga’s side that the Bulls could factor into his situation right now,” Fischer said. He added that Kuminga’s camp believes if he takes the qualifying offer and becomes an unrestricted free agent next year, “the Bulls… are going to be major players with cap space.”

Giddey’s Contract Demands

Meanwhile, Giddey is looking for a serious payday from the Bulls – a five-year, $150 million contract similar to what Orlando Magic guard Jalen Suggs received. That works out to $30 million per year.

Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times reported last month that “He wants to get a deal done to stay in Chicago, and the Bulls want him as a foundation piece, especially after helping the Thunder to an NBA title by giving them guard Alex Caruso for Giddey last offseason.”

The problem? They’re pretty far apart on money.

“They are somewhere between $8 million to $10 million per year apart,” according to Cowley.

Giddey’s rookie contract with the Thunder paid him $6.58 million in 2023-24 and $8.35 million last season before he was traded to Chicago for Alex Caruso.

The young guard is clearly looking for a massive raise. Whether the Bulls are willing to meet his demands – or explore the Warriors’ sign-and-trade proposal – remains to be seen.
