The Golden State Warriors‘ dynasty might not get a fairy-tale ending.
After winning three championships in four years and four over eight seasons, it seems the Warriors’ big three—Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green—might soon be just a duo.
Thompson’s upcoming free agency has everyone talking because contract talks with the Warriors aren’t looking good. Marc Stein reports that this could be because the Warriors are more focused on trading for Paul George from the Clippers and other targets.
“Warriors coach Steve Kerr appeared on ‘The Jim Rome Show’ earlier this week and said that he ‘desperately’ wants Thompson to stay, but league sources say that Golden State has prioritized the trade pursuit of the LA Clippers’ Paul George and other targets all week, only widening the gulf between the sides,” Stein said.
Possible Moves for Thompson
Stein also mentioned there’s a strong mutual interest between Thompson and the Dallas Mavericks as free agency approaches. Both sides seem ready to start fresh. The idea of Thompson leaving is gaining traction , especially with rumors about him joining Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving in Dallas.
Fans might feel mixed about these changes; it’s both exciting and sad to see such shifts in teams.
If George doesn’t get what he wants from the Clippers, they might trade him rather than lose him for nothing in free agency. This means we could see George playing with Curry and Green while Thompson heads to Dallas—a scenario that’s starting to look very possible.
