The Warriors didn’t get Lauri Markkanen from the Jazz.
They also aren’t chasing Brandon Ingram or Zach LaVine, according to The Athletic. Despite missing out on these big names and Paul George, the team isn’t worried and feels good about their current squad of 14 players.
Ingram and LaVine have limited interest because of their expensive contracts. LaVine is set to make over $40 million each year for at least two more years, while Ingram wants a high-paying extension.
Warriors’ Offseason Moves:
This offseason, the Warriors lost Klay Thompson but gained DeโAnthony Melton, Buddy Hield, Kyle Anderson, and Lindy Waters. They decided not to trade Brandin Podziemski for Markkanen. Instead, they will rely on young talents like Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, and Trayce Jackson-Davis to step up.
Fans might think this shows confidence in their young players.
Golden State saw Markkanen as a great fit due to his age and contract but now know he’s off-limits for at least a year. The team will keep an eye on their roster while holding onto most of their future first-round picks. This could make them potential big-time buyers before the February trade deadline.
For now, The Athletic says the Warriors will look for smaller trades through August and September rather than making huge moves typical of NBA teams during this period.
